英語中的連詞是一種虛詞，它可連接詞與詞或句與句，起連接的作用，但不承擔句子成分。連詞分從屬連詞和并列連詞，從屬連詞引導從句，而并列連詞連接兩個互不依從的詞、短語或分句。
and&orand和or是用得最多的并列連詞，可以連接：
1.兩個名詞、形容詞，以及兩個并列的動詞等。如：

2.兩個并列的短語。如：
Themanenteredhishouseandtookoffhiscoat.
3.兩個并列的分句。如：

注意：
or連接分句還可表示“否則”。如：
Driveslowly,oryoumayhaveanaccident.
butbut表示意思的轉折。如：
Mycousinpassedtheexam,butIdidn’t.
Itissunnybutcoldtoday.

soso表示結果，意為“因此，所以”。如：
Therainbegantofall,sowewenthome.
注意：so和because不能連用。如：
Hewasill,sohedidn’tgotoschool.相當于
Hedidn’tgotoschool,becausehewasill.
